The Little Prince is a Big Star
Posted on |
We are incredibly proud to celebrate BWYA Grade 8 student Alec Zhai, who recently took to the international stage in the titular role of The Little Prince during a tour in France.
This remarkable production is a Sino-French collaboration, co-produced by Yanghua Theatre and the French National Theatre. It represents another milestone in cross-cultural theatre, following the acclaimed success of the Chinese adaptation of Les Misérables.
Directed by the highly respected French theatre artist Jean Bellorini, the production brings a fresh and contemporary interpretation to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s beloved classic. Bellorini is renowned for his dedication to reimagining literary masterpieces for modern audiences, making The Little Prince a natural choice—both for its global significance and its enduring emotional resonance.
The story holds special meaning in France, not only as one of the country’s most treasured literary works, but also through its connection to the city of Lyon—home of the French National Theatre and closely linked to Saint-Exupéry’s legacy. At the same time, The Little Prince has long held a cherished place in the hearts of Chinese readers, making this collaboration particularly meaningful as a bridge between cultures.
Alec’s performance in such a prestigious, international production is a testament to his talent, dedication, and passion for the arts. His journey from BWYA to the French stage is an inspiring example of the global opportunities available to our students—and of where creativity, courage, and hard work can lead.
