Celebrating Unity in Diversity: UN Day at BWYA
On Thursday, October 24th, the BWYA community came together in a vibrant celebration of United Nations Day—an event that not only coincided with the official UN calendar but also embodied our school’s motto: Locally Grounded, Globally Aware. From 13:00 to 15:20, our entire campus transformed into a global village, buzzing with colour, culture, and curiosity.
A Powerful Opening: Ms. Tebow’s Call to Action
The day began with a stirring speech from Ms. Tebow, Director of Educational and Community Services. She reminded us that sustainability begins with small, everyday actions—turning off taps, reducing waste, and walking or biking more. Her words challenged every student, parent, and staff member to ask: “What should I do? What can I do? What will I do?”
Her message set the tone for a day rooted in purpose and participation, aligning with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were explored across all grade levels.
Honouring Our Distinguished Guests
We were honoured to welcome esteemed representatives from embassies around the world, who joined us in celebrating cultural understanding and global citizenship. Special thanks to:
- Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia
- Embassy of Jamaica
- Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan
- Embassy of the Republic of Tunisia
- The Culture Centre of Serbia
Their presence and presentations enriched the day with firsthand insights into diplomacy, culture, and international cooperation.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Ms. Pauline Wong, Head of the PTA Office, and her dedicated team, Ully Hutagalung, School Event & Alumni Relation Coordinator and Anna Bai, PTA Liaison Officer, whose thoughtful planning and tireless coordination brought UN Day to life. From logistics to decorations, their behind-the-scenes efforts ensured the day ran smoothly and joyfully for students, staff, and guests alike. Their commitment to fostering community spirit and global awareness was evident in every detail — a job exceptionally well done.
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on this unforgettable day, we carry forward the spirit of the United Nations—not just in celebration, but in action. Whether it’s conserving water, reducing waste, or learning about our global neighbours, every small step matters.
Thank you to our students, staff, families, and honoured guests for making UN Day 2025–2026 a resounding success. Together, we are shaping a more sustainable, compassionate, and connected world.
