BWYA Returns to US for Global Innovation Race
A group of Grade 8 and Grade 10 students from BWYA embarked on an unforgettable overseas school trip to the University of California, Berkeley, in San Francisco. Led by Dr. Richard Harrison, this marked BWYA’s third year participating in the Global Innovation Race, a prestigious program hosted by the Digital Media Academy at Stanford University.

The trip centred on applying artificial intelligence (AI) to solve real-world problems. Students worked in cross-cultural teams with peers from international schools worldwide, tackling AI challenges under the guidance of Stanford University experts. Through design thinking workshops and AI prompting exercises, students gained practical experience in using technology to address global issues. This immersive experience not only sharpened their academic capabilities but also equipped them with the confidence and skills needed to thrive in future university environments—particularly for those considering international study.
Highlights of the Trip:
- Campus Visits: Students toured both UC Berkeley and Stanford University, gaining firsthand insight into world-renowned academic environments.
- Iconic Landmarks: The group explored the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay, and enjoyed an inspiring tour of Silicon Valley.
- Tech Industry Exposure: Visits to leading tech companies such as Google and Apple offered students a glimpse into cutting-edge innovation.
- Historical Perspective: A visit to the Computer History Museum deepened students’ understanding of the evolution of technology.
Looking Ahead:
The Digital Media Academy plans to host the next Global Innovation Race at Stanford University in July 2026. Further details will be shared once confirmed.
