CWWP: Grade 3 Journey to Zhoukoudian

As part of the Classroom Without Walls Programme, Grade 3 students took part in a trip to Zhoukoudian, exploring the Peking Man Museum and archaeological site. The experience introduced students to the living environment of early humans and brought prehistoric life into focus through interactive games and guided learning. Using the theme “Travel Through Ten Millennia, Trace Back to Cultural Roots,” the programme took students on a journey from Paleolithic society through early agricultural civilisation, helping them understand how human lifestyles and traditions have evolved over time.

Hands on activities played a central role in deepening engagement and understanding. Students designed tribal costumes and feather hats, created Neolithic painted pottery, and explored elements of traditional Chinese culture through Tai Chi, poetry, and herbal medicine. These experiences encouraged creativity, curiosity, and reflection, while helping students make connections between the past and present. The trip supported a growing awareness of cultural heritage and the importance of living in harmony with nature, making Zhoukoudian a meaningful introduction to history as a living, experiential subject.
