The IN Programme
A SOLID FOUNDATION, AN INTERNATIONAL OUTLOOK
BWYA’s innovative IN (International) Education Programme has been specifically designed for students who hope to develop their English language ability, as well as learning globally established international curricula through registered education programmes.
The lower grades align their learning with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) and the upper grades follow an examination curriculum from Cambridge International Examinations in addition to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) for students wanting to enter university.
8 “I” PRINCIPLES FOR LEARNING
These principles for learning are applied to all aspects of school life and guide us in our development and implementation of the IN programme.
Subject-based learning in English and Chinese
Holistic, student-centred approach
English classes taught by native speakers
Highly qualified Chinese teaching staff
Chinese/International co-homeroom teachers
Science including Biology, Chemistry and Physics
Humanities including History and Geography
6th to 8th grade students study subjects based on the IB MYP framework but with a focus on developing their learning through English language immersion, speaking, listening, reading and writing in all subjects. Chinese Language is also taught as a first language and as a second language.
9th and 10th grade students will enroll for courses with Cambridge for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).
“Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds. It is recognised by leading universities and employers worldwide, and is an international passport to progression and success. Developed over 25 years ago, it is tried, tested and trusted by schools worldwide.”
On successful completion of assessments in these classes, students may be entered for external examinations at the end of a two-year programme to gain certification and qualifications. The IN School also works towards the International Certificate in Education (ICE). This allows the BWYA IN Programme to offer a broad and balanced curriculum by recognising the achievements of learners who pass examinations in at least seven Cambridge IGCSE subjects from five different subject groups, including two different languages
Grades 9 and 10 will also be supplemented with additional classes to support students’ academic progress in Physical Education and the Arts.
In addition to the above, new Grade 10 IN students are eligible for our Pre-DP programme. The Pre-DP programme is intended to build up a solid foundation for students who hope to complete the IB DP by improving their English level and enhancing their skills in relevant subjects.
11th and 12th grade students will be offered a minimum of two, and up to 6 courses in 2,Standard Level or High Level. Courses currently available from the IB DP are (subject to change):
Chinese Language and Literature (Chinese Language A)
English Language Acquisition (English Language B)
As an alternative, students also have the option of using grades 10 and 11 of our 2+1 IN programme to prepare for spending grade 12 at an American residential high school.
