October 24, 2008
Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:
Now that the temperatures are getting colder, we thought that we would take this opportunity to remind everyone what the school uniform is. If you have any further questions, please contact us.
Stay warm,
Ms. Sara Stokvis
International School - Assistant Principal

Dress Uniform
(For special events and public occasions)
school tie
a long or short-sleeved white collared shirt
dark blue or black pants/trousers
dark blue or black skirts for girls

Outer Garments
The uniform dress code does not prohibit students from wearing coats, jackets, or other appropriate outer garments when necessary due to weather conditions or for other legitimate reasons. These outerwear items should be removed when the student enters the classroom. Students may wear clothing that will help keep them warm as long as their proper school uniform is worn on top.
Financial Considerations
If financial hardship means that a student cannot comply with the dress code, an application for dispensation to attend classes should be submitted in writing by the parent/guardian to Mr. Aubrey Curran – International School Principal.?
New Students
Students entering the BWYA during the school year may be granted a grace period of one (1) week before being required to comply with the uniform dress code.
More information
No slippers or flip-flops are allowed.
Shirts/blouses should be tucked in and buttons fastened.
On special occasions when dress uniform must be worn, students who are not wearing uniform will be sent home to change, and the time will be recorded as absence.
Students will not be accepted in the classrooms and school halls without the proper attire.
Repeated failure to follow the school uniform and/or dress codes may result in disciplinary measures.
Purpose and Intent:
To instil students with discipline and sense of pride in BWYA as their school.
To encourage personal responsibility for how we look – so that we are always presentable to visitors
To organize our appearance so that we are seen to be ‘fit for the purpose of learning’.
To recognise individuality but develop a ‘we first - me second’ culture with a focus on the community.
To improve school spirit with students taking pride in their school’s appearance and respecting the school facilities we share.
To aid teachers, administrative staff and campus guards to recognise BWYA students both in school and while outside of school.
