Dear Parents/Guardians:

The school year is well under way and off to an excellent start. We would like to clarify our student attendance policy for you. In addition we are pleased to introduce that we are adding a few attendance options to our school website. When you enter the school website and click on school centres you can then enter the middle school section. Under this heading your will find the two new additions – report an absent student and early dismissal request forms. Report an absent student can be used to inform the school that your student will not be attending classes that day. Early dismissal request forms can be submitted no later than the day before your student needs to leave school before the end of the school day. Please note that both of these forms will need to be verified that they were indeed sent by you the parent/guardian. We hope that these new options and the explanation below will help you to communicate better with us.

Regards,

Ms. Sara Stokvis

Assistant Principal

Purpose
Regular attendance at school is essential in allowing students to develop in all aspects of school life. We will work closely with parents and guardians to ensure that each student attends school on a regular basis. In order for our program to work as intended students need to participate in all school activities.

Absent Students
Parents or guardians should inform the school by 8:00 am if their student will be absent for the school day. When the student returns to school a note written by the parent or guardian must be brought in and given to the homeroom teacher. The note should include the following information

the reason for absence

the date(s) the student was/will be absent

a contact number to reach the parent or guardian if there are any further questions.

Examples of excused absences illness, death in the family, or emergency visa issues.

Examples of unexcused absences going on vacation, going to visit your hometown.

Late Students
Students are expected to be in homeroom by 8:10. Any student who arrives after 8:10 will be marked late. Students who come to school after morning registration (after 8:18) will first report to reception to sign in and receive a pass to enter class. Students should provide the school with a written note from their parent or guardian explaining why the student did not arrive at school on time.

Early Dismissal
Students who need to leave prior to the end of the school day will need to either submit the completed Early Dismissal Request Form located on the school website or a note written by their parent or guarding to school asking for permission to leave school early. The note should include

the reason for needing to leave school

the time the student will need to leave school

the time the student is expected to return to school

if someone is to pick up the student their name

a contact number to reach the parent or guardian if there are any further questions.

In the case of an emergency and a student needs to leave school early, a parent or guardian may come directly to school and ask permission to have their student leave early.

Students who choose to leave the campus without permission may be subjected to disciplinary action.
