OUR PROGRAMMES

We offer quality programmes using both English and Chinese as the primary language of instruction. We are in a strong position
to offer an education that is both locally grounded and globally-aware, combining elements of Eastern and Western culture and methodology.

BWYA PRIMARY SCHOOL

From K-Class to Graduation

Our dedicated primary school campuses offer the innovative and creative International Primary Curriculum (IPC) for students from K-Class (aged 5) all the way to Grade 5.

Just like our other programmes, the language of instruction is English and the programme is designed to give students all the building blocks they need to successfully progress through their school life. What this means is that BWYA can provide world-leading teaching programmes for students aged 5 to 18, and prepare them for university and beyond.

The IPC curriculum is centred on eight personal learning goals which look beyond the acquisition of knowledge (inquiry, resilience, morality, respect, communication, adaptability, thoughtfulness and cooperation), all of which are closely aligned to the IB learner profile and help our young learners to develop as a person.

The IPC programme is also an active programme. Students are constantly moving and working in dynamic groups to stimulate their learning. The students are also not just proactive in responding to questions from the teacher but are positively encourage to come up with questions of their own to help shape their learning. Classes are based on a Unit of Inquiry which acts as an over-arching theme for each subject.

One of the fundamental philosophies of IPC, and one that it shares with BWYA as a whole, is that we never lose sight of our local community. So for us, this means that Chinese traditions and history are integral to our learning. Chinese is also taught as a second language.

In addition to subject specific goals, IPC identifies 8 personal learning goals alongside international mindedness and international learning.

An example of a skills based Geography learning goal is:
Be able to make maps and plans for real and imaginary places, using pictures and symbols.
An example of a knowledge-based Science learning goal is:
Be able, with help, to conduct simple investigations.

ASSESSMENT

As IPC is a skills based curriculum, mastering cannot be assessed by tests; instead it needs time, practice, and process to ensure mastery. Each of the areas of Knowledge, Skills, and Understanding are assessed by both teachers and students themselves into Beginning, Developing, and Mastering.
